As a business, we operate a growing fleet of 30 trucks based out of our headquarters in Berwick-upon-Tweed and they can be seen out on the road throughout our trading area from the Highlands of Scotland down to North Yorkshire.

Most of the fleet have bulk tipper trailers, allowing for the movement of harvested crops from farms to our grain stores, while also delivering finished malt produced by our malting division Simpsons Malt to breweries and distilleries across the UK.

Additionally, we own some curtain sided trailers that deliver seed and fertiliser and we also work closely with a number of additional haulage partners to ensure excellent customer service at both the start and end of each season.

Running sustainably

As part of our efforts to reduce the emissions from our trucks, in January 2021, we took delivery of a 140,000 litre HVO fuel tank and switched our fleet onto HVO, a synthetic paraffinic fuel that’s stable, renewable, sustainable and high-quality.

As a premium-quality second-generation renewable diesel alternative, HVO is made from 100% renewable raw materials and has reduced the greenhouse emissions of our fleet by up to 90%.

HVO is viewed as the best available technology to significantly reduce emissions for us as a business until electric or hydrogen powered haulage vehicles become viable, which is still several years away.

An award-winning fleet

Managing a fleet of sustainable trucks along with their striking livery were a couple of the reasons behind us winning Northern Tipper Operator of the Year in the 2021 Transport News Northern Rewards.

The award was dedicated to our team of drivers, who provide an efficient delivery and collection service for our customers. Such is the pride that our drivers have in their trucks, some also choose to take their cabs to truck shows across Scotland, receiving various prizes over the years.

We are members of the Freight Transport Association (FTA) and Trade Assurance Scheme for Combinable Crops (TASCC), while all our vehicles are tracked. All the above, combined with a good investment structure and vehicle replacement programme, further enhances our professionalism and dedication.

In-house mechanics

With such a large fleet, we have a garage on-site at our headquarters, which is operated by a small team of in-house mechanics.

The team perform regular checks on all our trucks and are always on-hand to provide mechanical support to our drivers when required.

All in all, they help to maximise the amount of time our trucks spend out on the road and ensure they are operating safely and efficiently.
